Elegy (to A.)
Composed in 1980, "Elegy (To A.)" is a composition for solo tuba. The original title, as performed on April 27, 1980, was "Elegy for Tuba." Performed at Peabody Concert Hall as part of "The Peabody Composers Showcase," it was performed by August Denhard. For reasons unknown, Dawn dedicated the piece "For Gus" and changed the original title.
Dawn's original reel-to-reel recording is distorted, as if the brass in the tuba was causing some type of sympathetic vibration. If the recording was in 1990, there is the possibility that the distortion was a deliberate effect, but I don't think that was the case.
I used the following videos for the background imagery - Psychedelic Salvia Trip music, 3DS Max Tornado, nVidia Demo: Twister GeForce 8600M GT, FreeFall: Through The Eye of a Creeper. AT the bottom is a letter from Idaho State University, announcing the composition's acceptance for inclusion in the T.U.B.A. Journal, a publication seen in more then 20 countries.
